Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. As a child she attended the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma chose to be an actor by the age of six. For several years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. At the age of ten the actress took part in and performed the main role in numerous Stagecoach School plays and productions. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been selected for the parts. She was cast alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. It set records for its opening and weekend ticket revenues, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by reviewers, and so were the performance of three new actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma received five nominations for her exceptional performance. Then, she was awarded the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress of the Film.
